Kevin McDermott is the founding member of the firm where he specializes in patent and trademark law. He has twenty years of experience including four and half years as a patent examiner, several years as an associate at intellectual property firms in the Washington, DC area, and eleven years as the sole in-house intellectual property counsel for a global technology company.
As in-house counsel, Kevin has created an entire patent portfolio consisting of U.S. and foreign patents and handled all intellectual property matters. For example, he has counseled company officers regarding patent infringement and invalidity matters. As a result, Kevin is sensitive to the perspective business clients bring to intellectual property matters.
Kevin holds a masters degree in electrical engineering and an undergraduate degree in civil engineering so handles patent matters in a wide range of electrical, computer, and mechanical technologies.
Over the years, Kevin has prepared and/or prosecuted patent applications in technologies including cybersecurity, biometric authentication, liveness detection, electronics, information security, telecommunications, electronic imaging, internet technologies, digital electronics, semiconductors, business methods, wind turbines, gas turbine engines (i.e., jet engines), medical imaging, airport security, and automobile braking systems.
Kevin also prepares and prosecutes trademark applications before the USPTO for medium and small-sized companies some of which are listed on, or are to be listed on, the Amazon Brand Registry.
