Kevin is the founding member of the firm concentrating in patents, trademarks, and land use and zoning.  He has been practicing for twenty-five years including four-and-a-half years as a patent examiner at the USPTO, several years as an associate at law firms in the Washington, DC area, and fifteen years as the sole in-house intellectual property (IP) counsel for a global technology company. 

 

He has created an entire patent portfolio consisting of U.S. and foreign patents and has handled over 1,000 patent applications and many trademark applications, so is very familiar with how a patent may be obtained on your idea or how a trademark may be obtained for your brand.  Kevin also counsels clients regarding patent infringement, invalidity, licensing, and letters from Non-Practicing Entities.  Additionally, he conducts patent due diligence reviews before and during acquisitions and based on the reviews counsels clients regarding competitive advantages provided by the patents as well as value.  He also conducts patent due diligence reviews for clients launching new products.  

Kevin holds a masters degree in electrical engineering and an undergraduate degree in civil engineering so handles patent matters in a wide range of technologies including electrical, computer, electro-mechanical, and mechanical technologies.  Additionally, he has extensive experience coordinating with attorneys in other countries to resolve international IP matters and obtain international patent and/or trademark protection.  Kevin also prepares and prosecutes trademark applications before the USPTO for medium and small-sized companies some of which are listed on the Amazon Brand Registry.
